if you us the same username/password you can share between portals.

Would this apply to subdomains with separate installations of DNN, if one was a 'copy' of the other (meaning, that I created a 'test' environment in a subdomain - mysite.com and test.mysite.com - by copying all the files from mysite.com to test.mysite.com and then restoring a backup of the main db to the test db?

I made a copy a while back (and did notice that, while my 'test' db login still worked for my test db, my 'live' db login worked for both now. Additionally, since I got all the users from my live site, my host and admin logins were now the same. I never bothered to change the host pwd for the test site.

Just this week, I upgraded both to 04.08.04 (through a harrowing week of tiral and error - mostly error - with faulty ftp downloads, off file counts, multiple issues that plagued my efforts to run a smooth end-to-end upgrade locally on test, then live prior to uploading to my site... I'm running in a hosted environment, btw). I don't think I often log in to one and then go to the other, but since the upgrade, now, if I login in to the live site (either locally or online) and then navigate to the test site, I am already logged in (respectively).

This doesn't seem right and I'm thinking that somehow it's related to the copy process, maybe? Possibly since the machine key and decryption key are the same? Still doesn't account for being logged into both (my db connection information uses the test login for test and the live login for live... however, as noted above, the live login works for both db's... this just doesn't answer it for me, though).

Any ideas?

I'm not necessarily worried about it, since I just use the test site for testing out module updates and what-not, but still, it's odd to me.

CabinMomma if you are getting the same loign I would make sure that you have the proper portal alias values for the local copy.
