Is it possible to have multiple portals on my local machine ll under the same install?

I need to move a live DNN install that ues 4 portals to my local xp pro machine. When I try to set it up, even if I use tab ids that would be for the other portals, it just redirects me to the default (0).

I have to make changes and debug and it cant be the live version and  I don't know how to get around this.

Have you ever setup one install with multiple portals on your local machine?

Yes, and no....

I have done it before, by simply adding an entry in the hosts file for each....but it is a bit tricky...

Also, if they are child portals, there is no problem at alL!

I dont understand the whole difference between child and parent portals. Is it just one is a subdoain and the other is the root domain?

If so, how do I do such a thing?

Also, I actually found a post somehwere earlier in the week that tlked about changing the host header file, and I tried it. But I could still never get it to work.

A parent portal is either a subdomain, or another domain. A child portal is implemented as a folder inside the current structure.

If you have multiple parent portals, you can try adding an entry to your hosts file.

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

That looks like

127.0.0.1 yoursite.com

Then see if that works.

I actually tried just that the other day and still couldn't get it to work correctly.

I've found a work around to get it working for now, but I will be looking deeper into this very soon. I'm sure you'll be my number resource.

Thanks for all the help you give me, Mitchel.
