Mitchel,

     Thank you very much for the tutorial on migrating from local to remote.  I'm afraid I fall under the category of not following your installation instructions for the local environment.   So my question is, what database steps do I need to do if I am using a user instance of SQL Server express.

If you used the dynamically attached .mdf file, the easiest method is simply to "attach" it to your local SQL Server instance, then since it will appear in SSMSE you can simply do the backup as recommended in my guide.
