DNN Guestbook 2.2 Released (And AJAX Implementation Info)

I announced via the forums on this website the release of my DotNetNuke Guestbook Module version 2.2 yesterday.  Now I would like to take this time to officially list the promised instructions to fully enable AJAX support for the module.  These items are required to be completed manually due to my previously mentioned bug in the DotNetNuke core regarding the use of the <supportspartialrendering> element within the .dnn files.

Pre-requisites

To enable AJAX support for the DNN Guestbook product you MUST currently have the module updated to version 2.2 or later and be running on DotNetNuke version 4.5.0 or later. As long as both of these requirements are completed you will be able to enable AJAX support using the below steps.

The Process

AJAX enabling the module is quite simple, you may follow the below steps. To start you must be logged into your website as the "host"

  • From the "host" menu select "Module Definitions"
  • Find the entry for "Guestbook" and select the "Edit" icon next to it
  • At the bottom of the new display you should notice a list of controls, click the "Edit" link next to the first one (ViewGuestbook.ascx)
  • Once viewing this control's properties simply check the box next to "Supports Partial Rendering?" and click "Update"
  • Now click the "Edit" button next to the "EditGuestbook.ascx" control and check the box for "Supports Partial Rendering?" on this control as well
  • This completes the process of enabling AJAX for this module, it is not necessary to enable AJAX for the settings page as there are no items which would benefit from AJAX. To see a demo of this module in action with AJAX support please click on the "Demo" link under the Guestbook Menu item!

As always this module is available for download free of charge under the "DNN Guestbook 2.2" item in my Software Store

    Mitchel,
Can partial rendering be set in the .dnn file?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Tom,

Yes, and it is in future releases of this module, the functionality was not functional though in 4.5.0.

It is done by adding a tag called supportspartialrendering to the control definition inside the .dnn file.
