New Forums Module

As some regular viewers of this site might notice, I have just implemented a new forums system.  This was done due to an "issue" with the DNN Core forum that was previously utilized.

Due to this "issue" I was not able to migrate content over from the existing system.  I apologize for the trouble!

Keep an eye out in the next few weeks for a review on the ActiveForums module (The new forum)

What was the "issue"? You know, a new version of the DNN Forum is set to be released very soon.

Will,

The issue was something in the forum that kept bringing down my site. I would get object reference not set to an instance of an object from the core forum module that would bring down the entire site.

Then it would be ok, then it would act up again.

Define "very soon," Will. :)

Terp - point well taken... :)

Mitchel - Your experience with the forum is very interesting. In my experience, aside from missing key needed features, the only "problem" I have experienced is with the NullReferenceException from an unhandled Null property in the building of nodes in the TreeView when you view certain Forum Users' profiles.

I am not disputing anything... Just conversating. :)

BTW, we have that NullReference exception handled now. ;)

Will,

Yes, the null reference exceptions were annoying but there were many other errors and pieces of lacked functionality that I just couldn't wait for. The new forums was first promised around March or maybe earlier.....it is now October and still nothing. There were issues with the module that posed security risks that brought down portions of my site and I couldn't deal with it anymore. A list of the items that bothered me is below.

-Javascript Injection issues, allowing users to essentially lock you out of your site. (Subject, Message, and Signature)
-Data issues with deletion of posts. Not sure what it was, but after deleting a post the entire forum stopped working and I wasn't about to dig around the data to find out why
-Non working e-mail notifications
-Overall performance was a bit slow
-No Text Replacements that worked EASILY! (Smilies, etc.)

Don't get me wrong, the DNN core forum has a lot of potential, it is just that the 4.x release is REALLY needed and with weighing my options I couldn't justify risking it with the existing core forum an longer.
